Install over USB

Put OpenShrooly on your Shrooly

Beta The installer is in open beta. If anything looks off, tell us. Send feedback or, with no account, message us here.

You need a computer with Chrome or Edge and a USB-C data cable. It takes about 5 minutes.

New to this? Read what you get and how to back up first, or what happened to Shrooly. Out of pods? See how to refill or replace one.

Once you are running: plan dates with the grow timeline calculator, size your fan cycle with the fresh air planner, see how long each mushroom takes, or fix a block that is not growing.

OpenShrooly is free, open source software that runs your Shrooly and lets it use Shroom Labs profiles. Write down your current humidity and temperature settings first, in case you need to set them again.

This page only offers releases signed by Shroom Labs, and your browser checks the signature before anything is sent to your Shrooly.

Checking the latest signed release…

  1. Plug your Shrooly into this computer with a USB-C data cable.
  2. Press Install and choose your Shrooly from the list. If it does not show up, hold the BOOT button while you plug it in.
  3. When it finishes, you can enter your Wi-Fi details right here. If you skip that, join the Wi-Fi network named OpenShrooly on your phone and follow the setup page that opens.
If the screen doesn't change after installing

Sometimes the Shrooly stays in install mode after the USB cable comes out. The screen keeps its old picture and the light may turn red. Your Shrooly is fine. To wake it up:

  1. Unplug the USB cable and the Shrooly's power cable. Both have to come out so it fully turns off.
  2. Wait 10 seconds.
  3. Plug in only the power cable. The screen should change within a minute.

Still stuck? Plug it back into this computer and press Install again. Installing twice does no harm.

To link your Shrooly to your account after installing, press button 4 on it to open the menu, choose Link this device, and scan the QR code. This needs 1.0.6-sl.1 or later. See the release notes.

Already running OpenShrooly? Link it to your account. To update, open your Shrooly's page, go to Settings, and press Check for updates. New versions install over Wi-Fi and are checked the same way.
