# Shroom Labs > Shroom Labs keeps Shrooly mushroom chambers growing after the Shrooly app stopped working. It offers free OpenShrooly firmware that installs from a browser, free culinary grow profiles, paid Chef's line profiles, and Grow Coach with Autopilot. Shrooly is a smart mushroom fruiting chamber. Since August 2025 many owners report the Shrooly app will not sign in, support does not answer, and orders did not arrive. The chamber itself still works. OpenShrooly is free, open source software that replaces the stock Shrooly software, so the chamber runs on your own Wi-Fi with no Shrooly app. It was started by Graham Stewart (grahamsz). Shroom Labs builds on his work, signs each release, and offers a browser installer: Chrome or Edge on a computer, a USB-C data cable, about 5 minutes. Updates then install over Wi-Fi. An account is optional; it adds a phone dashboard and email alerts. Shroom Labs also publishes researched grow profiles for culinary and functional mushrooms, with temperature, humidity, fresh air, and light for every stage. The basic profiles are free. The Chef's line adds paid specialty methods for a better harvest, $2.99 to $3.99 each, as one-time purchases. Grow Coach reads a linked chamber's live readings and recommends humidity and temperature changes for the culinary profile being grown. Autopilot can make those changes itself, inside the profile's safe range, and logs every decision with the reason. Grow Coach is $4.99 a month or $49 a year. Shroom Labs is not made by or affiliated with the company behind Shrooly. All grow numbers on this site come from the published grow profiles. Temperatures are in °C with °F in brackets. ## Bring a Shrooly back - [Install on your Shrooly](https://shroomlabs.io/install): put free OpenShrooly firmware on a Shrooly from Chrome or Edge with a USB-C data cable in about 5 minutes. Signed releases only. - [What happened to Shrooly?](https://shroomlabs.io/what-happened-to-shrooly): We could not find a public shutdown notice from the company that made Shrooly. Its last customer update was July 31, 2025. Since August 2025 many owners report the app will not sign in, support does not answer, and orders did not arrive. Your chamber can still run on free community software. - [Reuse your Shrooly](https://shroomlabs.io/reuse-your-shrooly): Yes, you can reuse your Shrooly. Free, open source software called OpenShrooly replaces the stock software, so the chamber runs on your own Wi-Fi with no Shrooly app. You install it from Chrome or Edge with a USB-C cable in about 5 minutes. Shroom Labs adds grow profiles and an optional phone dashboard. - [Shrooly FAQ](https://shroomlabs.io/shrooly-faq): Short version: many Shrooly owners lost the app in 2025, and the company has not said why. The chamber itself still works. Free OpenShrooly firmware runs it on your own Wi-Fi with no Shrooly app, and you can install it from Chrome or Edge in about 5 minutes. Answers to the questions owners ask most are below. - [Shrooly pods: how to refill or replace one](https://shroomlabs.io/shrooly-pods): Owners report that new Shrooly pods are hard or impossible to get. You have three ways forward: get a second flush from the pod you have, refill a pod with your own substrate if you can work clean, or, easiest of all, replace it with a ready to fruit grow block or all in one bag that fits the chamber. With free OpenShrooly software, the chamber runs any block, no pod needed. - [Shrooly shut down? Your options](https://shroomlabs.io/shrooly-alternatives): We could not find a public shutdown notice, but many owners report the Shrooly app no longer signs in and pods are hard to get. You still have four good options: revive the chamber with free software, run it by hand, build a simple chamber of your own, or grow in a plastic tub. The first keeps the hardware you paid for working. - [Join the Shroom Labs beta](https://shroomlabs.io/beta): If your Shrooly sits unused because the app stopped working, this beta puts it back to work. It is free. Spots are limited to the first 50 linked chambers. ## Other chambers - [Mushroom chambers that work with Shroom Labs](https://shroomlabs.io/chambers): Shrooly is fully supported. Terrashroom has free community firmware that is untested on real hardware. Inkbird and other Tuya Wi-Fi controllers, and AC Infinity controllers, keep their own software: set them from the free grow profiles, or automate them in Home Assistant. Any tub or box works with the profiles too. - [Terrashroom after the shutdown](https://shroomlabs.io/terrashroom): Terrashroom closed in June 2025 and said its devices would stop working as its cloud service ended. Shroom Labs now has free community firmware that runs a Terrashroom on your own Wi-Fi with no cloud. It is untested on real hardware, so we are looking for owners to try it first. - [Link a chamber](https://shroomlabs.io/claim): link a chamber to your account to see it on your phone and get grow alerts by email. Optional. It works fully on your Wi-Fi without it. ## Grow Coach and Autopilot - [Grow Coach](https://shroomlabs.io/coach): reads your chamber's live readings and recommends humidity and temperature changes for the culinary profile you are growing. Autopilot makes those changes for you inside the profile's safe range. $4.99 a month or $49 a year. Cancel anytime. ## Grow guides - [Mushroom growing conditions for every species](https://shroomlabs.io/grow): one table with fruiting temperature, humidity, light, and days for each species. - [Chef's line](https://shroomlabs.io/chefs-line): paid specialty grow profiles for a better harvest. Each is a one-time purchase. - [How to grow mushrooms at home](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/grow-mushrooms-at-home): The easiest way to grow mushrooms at home is to start with an oyster or lion's mane kit or a colonized block, keep it at 85 to 95% humidity with regular fresh air, give it indirect light, and keep the room cool. Most kits start forming mushrooms one to two weeks after you open them. When that works, a fruiting chamber makes every grow repeatable. - [What is the easiest mushroom to grow at home?](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/easiest-mushrooms-to-grow): Oyster mushrooms are the easiest mushroom to grow at home. Pearl and blue oyster colonize fast, shrug off small mistakes, and run about 29 and 25 days in their profiles from the start of colonization to the end of the first harvest window. Lion's mane is a close second and just as good in a kit. - [Grow kit vs monotub vs smart chamber](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/grow-kit-vs-monotub-vs-smart-chamber): A grow kit is the cheapest and simplest way to get a first harvest. A monotub gives bigger harvests from bulk substrate but takes more hands on work and clean technique. A smart fruiting chamber holds humidity, fresh air, and light for you, and some also manage temperature, so results repeat, but it costs more up front. - [How much humidity and fresh air do mushrooms need?](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/humidity-and-fresh-air): Most culinary mushrooms need 86 to 95% humidity while pins form and 82 to 93% while they fruit, plus regular fresh air to clear the carbon dioxide they breathe out. Too little humidity gives dry, cracked caps and stalled pins. Too little fresh air gives long stems and small caps. The two pull against each other, so the goal is steady humidity with gentle, regular air changes. - [Why are my mushrooms not pinning?](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/mushrooms-not-pinning): Mushrooms usually fail to pin for one of two reasons: the block is not fully colonized yet, or nothing has told it to fruit. Pins form when the block is fully white and then gets a change: cooler air, more fresh air, higher humidity, and light. Check those four, give it a week, and most blocks start to pin. - [Why do my mushrooms have long stems and small caps?](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/leggy-mushroom-stems): Long, thin stems with small caps almost always mean too much carbon dioxide. The mushrooms are stretching to reach fresh air. Add more air changes, open more holes, or fan more often. If air is good, check light next: mushrooms in a dark corner also stretch toward the nearest light. - [Why are my mushroom caps dry or cracked?](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/dry-cracked-mushroom-caps): Dry, cracked, or curled caps mean the mushrooms are losing water faster than the block can supply it. Usually the air is drier than the species wants, or a fan, heater, or vent is blowing straight on them. Raise humidity, block direct airflow, and keep air changes gentle. Most culinary profiles here fruit at 82 to 93% humidity. - [Is my mushroom block contaminated?](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/mushroom-contamination): Healthy mycelium is white, sometimes with yellow or amber drops. Contamination usually shows as color: green, blue-green, black, pink, or orange patches, or wet, slimy spots that smell sour. If you see colored mold, bag the block, take it outside without opening it, and clean the area. Do not eat mushrooms from a moldy block. - [Mushroom growing terms, explained plainly](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/mushroom-growing-glossary): Mushroom growing has its own words, but the ideas are simple. Mycelium is the living network that eats the food you give it. Spawn is mycelium grown on grain, used to seed a bigger batch of substrate, which is the food. Colonization is the mycelium filling that food. Pinning is when tiny mushrooms appear. A flush is one wave of mushrooms. Below are the terms you will meet most, grouped by when you meet them. - [Shrooly app not working? What you can do](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/shrooly-app-not-working): Since about August 2025, many owners report that the Shrooly app will not log in or start a grow, often with a no internet connection error, and that support does not reply. If that is what you see, the problem is likely on the app's servers, not your phone. You can still use the chamber: free, open source OpenShrooly firmware runs it over your own Wi-Fi from a web page, with no app or cloud account. - [How long does it take to grow mushrooms?](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/how-long-to-grow-mushrooms): Most culinary mushrooms take 20 to 78 days at home, from the start of colonization to the end of the first harvest. Oysters are fastest: pink oyster takes about 20 days and pearl oyster about 29. Shiitake and reishi take 74 to 77 days. From a fully colonized kit, most species fruit in one to three weeks. - [Mushroom grow kit not growing? Check these causes](https://shroomlabs.io/guides/mushroom-grow-kit-not-growing): Most grow kits that do nothing have one of five problems: the block is not fully colonized, the room is too warm or too cold, the air is too dry, there is too little fresh air, or the kit was not opened where it needs to be. Work through the checklist below in order. A healthy kit usually pins within one to two weeks once all five are right. ## Free grow tools - [Mushroom grow timeline calculator](https://shroomlabs.io/tools/grow-timeline): Pick a mushroom and the day you start, and this calculator lists the date each stage begins, the temperature, humidity, fresh air, and light to use, and your first harvest window. Totals run from 20 days for pink oyster to 78 days for turkey tail. You can save every stage to your calendar as an .ics file. - [Mushroom fresh air and humidity planner](https://shroomlabs.io/tools/fresh-air-planner): Enter your chamber size and fan flow, and this planner works out how many times an hour your fan replaces the air in the chamber, next to the humidity and fan cycle your mushroom's profile uses. Oyster growing rooms are commonly run at about 4 to 6 fresh air changes an hour while fruiting, so you get a number to compare against. ## Grow profiles by species - [How to grow Beech / Buna Shimeji](https://shroomlabs.io/profiles/beech-shimeji): Beech / Buna Shimeji (Hypsizygus tessulatus), also called brown beech mushroom or buna shimeji, takes about 40 days to grow at home, from spawn to the end of the first harvest. RSS: https://shroomlabs.io/blog/feed.xml - [Build an automated mushroom fruiting chamber with an ESP32 and ESPHome](https://shroomlabs.io/blog/esp32-esphome-mushroom-fruiting-chamber): You need one ESP32 running ESPHome, a humidity sensor (an SHT40 or SHT41, plus an optional SCD41 for CO2), and three low voltage switches for a humidifier, a fan and an LED light. The firmware turns the humidifier on when humidity drops 1.5 points under target and off at 0.5 over, runs the fan for a set time on a set interval, and keeps the light on for a set number of hours. Our pearl oyster fruiting stage is 88% humidity, 40 seconds of fan every 10 minutes and 12 hours of light. The example YAML below runs that profile and shows up in Home Assistant. - [How to fruit a lion's mane grow kit](https://shroomlabs.io/blog/how-to-fruit-a-lions-mane-kit): Cut one small X in a colonized kit, keep the air around it very damp, give it moderate fresh air and about 12 hours a day of low light, and keep it cool. Our lion's mane profile pins for 5 days at 18 °C (64 °F) and 94% humidity, then fruits for 12 days at 17 °C (63 °F) and 90%, under about 200 lux for 12 hours a day. That is about 17 days from opening to the end of the first harvest. Pick it while the spines are long and still white, before they turn yellow. - [How to fruit an oyster mushroom grow kit](https://shroomlabs.io/blog/how-to-fruit-an-oyster-mushroom-kit): Cut the bag open on a fully white kit, keep the cut face damp but never dripping, give it plenty of fresh air and about 12 hours a day of low light, and keep it cool. Pins show in about 4 to 5 days and the first harvest is done about 13 to 15 days after you open it. Our pearl oyster profile pins at 18 °C (64 °F) and 93% humidity, then fruits at 16 °C (61 °F) and 88%. Blue oyster runs a few degrees cooler, at 15 °C (59 °F) to pin and 14 °C (57 °F) to fruit. - [Do mushrooms need light to grow?](https://shroomlabs.io/blog/do-mushrooms-need-light): Most mushrooms need some light to fruit, but not much and not for energy. Keep colonization dark, then give about 12 hours a day of low light once pins should form. About 50 to 500 lux of cool white or blue light is enough for oysters, lion's mane, maitake and reishi. Button mushrooms need none, and enoki grown dark makes long white stems. ## Help - [FAQ](https://shroomlabs.io/faq): plain answers about growing mushrooms at home, grow profiles, the Hub, and running OpenShrooly on a Shrooly. - [Docs](https://shroomlabs.io/docs): what Profiles, the Hub, and Community are, and how a chamber running OpenShrooly uses them. - [Contact](https://shroomlabs.io/contact): questions about an account, billing, a refund, a chamber, or your data. ## Optional - [Full text of the grow guides and culinary profiles](https://shroomlabs.io/llms-full.txt) - [OpenShrooly source code](https://github.com/themsquared/openshrooly) - [Privacy policy](https://shroomlabs.io/privacy) - [Terms of Service](https://shroomlabs.io/tos)
